Uber ATG Safety Framework is an interactive website to display the complex and involving safety arguments around self-driving technology leveraging a notation system called GSN, Global Structured Notation. The challenge was to figure out how to take a standard GSN graph, which is designed for static reading and reinterpret it for use in a dynamic, interactive visualization that anyone can use and understand.

We took on the challenge to create an easily digestible way of presenting the massive amount of data in a clear and visually interesting way. The design was inspired by metro and subway maps and incorporating thick lines and strong typographic hierarchy.

To keep the information well organized and easily discoverable, we added helpful tools such as dynamic search, filtering, expand/collapse all buttons. We added a mini map for easy navigation and the ability to highlight a selected path and trace it from goal to solution.
